Periodicals -- What are They?

Most people engaged in academic research differentiate among categories of periodicals -- academic journal, popular magazine, news magazine, newspaper, etc.

Lots of academic libraries have prepared guides intended to help a reader determine the type of periodical. For example, here are guides from Skidmore and Purdue.

Periodicals -- What Do We Have?

How can you find out which periodicals to which we have direct access?

  • Consult the A-Z Journal List on the library home page.  (Please note that this option is mislabeled; the list includes more than journals.)

This also will help you identify databases which cover articles from the publication(s) in which you are interested.

Why don't we have everything?   An example:

Newspaper and Magazine Databases

We have a collection of databases that are useful for locating articles from newspapers and magazines  In this class session, we are focusing on newspaper databases.

Note that some of these databases include broadcast transcript sub-sets.
