Description of the Correctional System Administration: According to the Department of Correction of Belarus, there are 16 correctional facilities, 3 correctional settlements, 1 educational facility, 3 pre-conviction centers, 3 prisons, 8 medical labor dispensary (pseudo-rehabilitation centers), and 27 open correctional facilities.
Belarus is the only country in Europe to use death penalty; condemned are executed by a shot in the head, and authorities do not inform families of the execution date or the burial place (Human Rights Watch).
There is no data suggesting that Belarus has used decarceration to address the Covid-19 pandemic in its prisons. In fact, there is data suggesting a complete disregard to the danger associated with pandemic in the detention centers, as government recently arbitrary detained journalists, protestors, and critics of the government (Human Rights Watch).
There is no data suggesting that Belarus has used decarceration to address the Covid-19 pandemic in its prisons.
