Introduction to This Guide

This guide, newly created in February 2020, is designed to help W&L students who are not enrolled in the University's Education program learn about issues related to volunteering in local school and other engagement in community-based learning.

Two broad topic areas have been identified initially which may be of particular value to volunteering students:

  • classroom management;
  • cultural competency.

Please see the options on the left side of this guide to view resources.  Most of the resources listed here are subscription-based and, thus, accessible only to current members of the W&L community.

If you have questions about the topics or purposes of this guide, you may contact Alessandra Del Conte Dickovick, Assistant Director of Community-Based Learning.   Questions about using this guide may be referred to Dick Grefe, Senior Reference Librarian.
