Employment and Labor Law

A guide to resources and information on U.S. employment and labor law.

News and Case Law Resources

All three major legal research platforms -- Westlaw, Lexis, and Bloomberg Law -- offer topically organized access to cases and news on labor and employment law. Such cases may include federal and state trial and appellate decisions, as well as federal regulatory agency decisions of the EEOC, Department of Labor, or other administrative bodies.

The following tabs highlight the relevant topical areas in each of the major platforms, as well as ways to keep current with developments in the areas of employment law that interest you.

The Westlaw Employment Law Practice Area can be accessed from the "Practice Areas" tab on the Westlaw homepage. It includes breaking news and professional analysis through "Practitioner Insights", plus a selection of links at the right of the page that point to relevant databases of cases, regulations, secondary materials, forms, etc. You can also view and set customized Alerts at the right of the screen, which will notify you via email or at log-in about topics or key terms you specify.

From the "Practice Areas" tab on the Lexis+ homepage, you can select the  "Labor and Employment Law" topical page. It includes quick links to cases, statutes, regulations, secondary sources, and news resources that focus on employment law topics.

Bloomberg Law's Labor & Employment Practice Center offers a wealth of specially selected news, cases, and analytical material. Access it from the "Practice Center" tab at the top of the Bloomberg Law homepage. Particularly notable are the Daily Labor Report and news services, which can be set to keep you informed by email on a regular basis. Also note that Bloomberg's coverage of court dockets is excellent -- it includes all federal filings via PACER plus many state courts, at no cost with your law school account.
