Search for Books in the W&L Catalog

Use the W&L Library catalog at annie.wlu.edu to search for books and other library materials held at the Law Library, as well as the Leyburn Library and Science Library on Front Campus. You can search in a variety of ways to find items that match the details you specify. The following tabs walk you through three popular search options: Search by Subject Heading, Search by Call Number, and Search by Keyword.

Items in the W&L Libraries are cataloged and shelved according to the Library of Congress Classification system, which provides uniform Subject Headings to be assigned to works on a specific topic. (If they address multiple topics, items will typically have more than one Subject Heading.)

Simply click one of the subject headings above to view related titles in the W&L catalog, or try typing subject headings into the "Subject Heading" search field in the catalog:

Books in the W&L Libraries are organized by call number, with ranges of call numbers associated with specific subject areas. Accordingly, when you find a title of interest on the shelf you will find other titles nearby that have a similar subject focus. Thus, sometimes browsing by call number -- either physically in the stacks or online in the catalog -- may prove more fruitful than searching for keywords or individual titles.

U.S. labor and employment law materials can generally be found in the call number range beginning at KF4749.  Note that the location of individual items may vary, so if you're browsing online, be sure to note the "LOCATION" indicated in the catalog record.

You can also easily use the call number of a good title to find additional items nearby and thus on similar topics. Click the "CALL NO." in the catalog record to view a list of all the other books surrounding it on the shelf:

Searching the catalog by Keyword will retrieve results matching your search terms in their title, author name, subject heading, and/or table of contents, where available. This can be a very useful type of search for getting started -- more inclusive, although less precise than other options.

Keyword search is the default option when you first visit the catalog at annie.wlu.edu:

WorldCat, at www.worldcat.org, allows basic and advanced searching of items in over 10,000 library catalogs worldwide, including subject, title, and keyword searching (through “Advanced Search”).

Use WorldCat to find materials relevant to your topic that aren't owned by W&L Libraries. You can request such items via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Please note that the check-out duration and other policies for ILL items are set by the lending institution and may not be the same as for W&L-owned materials.
