Externship Programs

Full Year

Judge David Carson (Chief Judge for the 23rd Judicial Circuit)

4 credits per semester (2 credit class and 2 field placement credits)


Students will be selected to serve as an extern with state and federal trial and appellate judges throughout Virginia. You will work side by side with the judge and their regular law clerks and attend court as schedules and duties permit.

Requirements:

  2. A brief statement, 250 words or less, detailing your interest in a judicial externship. The statement should detail your particular interest in a trial or appellate placement and/or a state or federal court placement. If you would like to clerk for a particular judge, your statement should provide the name and location of the judge, the reason(s) for your interest, and whether the judge in question has expressed a willingness to work with you and the judicial externship program.

Preferences regarding trial/appellate and state/federal placements will attempt to be accommodated but cannot be guaranteed.

A student enrolled in this course may not simultaneously participate in another clinical program.
