The Census Bureau is the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy.

The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of households in the U.S.conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides cross-sectional data on the U.S. labor force, employment, unemployment, earnings, employment by occupation, etc. The March Supplement includes income, poverty and health insurance coverage. The CPS data provide reliable estimates at the state level and for 12 of the largest metropolitan statistical areas.

ICPSR is the world's largest repository of social science research data sets. Most data sets are available in Stata, SPSS, R and SAS formats. ICPSR also lists recent publications that utilized the data set in its research.

Conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, contain U.S. data that focuses primarily on education, labor market activities and other life experiences, such as marital history. The youth survey (NLSY97) may be of particular interest. Round 15 (2011-2012, is now available.
