General Application Information

The deadline for the JULY 2017 West Virginia Bar Exam is APRIL 1, 2017. Late applications (requires $200 late fee) are due by May 1, 2017.

Content and Scoring of the Exam

The West Virginia bar exam consists of:

  • The Multistate Bar Examination (200 multiple-choice questions)
  • The Multistate Performance Test (two performance test questions)
  • The Multistate Essay Examination (six essay questions "to be answered according to the laws of the state of West Virginia")

The tested essay subject areas are:

  1. Business Associations (includes Agency & Partnership and Corporations & LLCs)
  2. Conflict of Laws
  3. Constitutional Law
  4. Contracts
  5. Criminal Law and Procedure
  6. Evidence
  7. Family Law
  8. Federal Civil Procedure
  9. Real Property 
  10. Torts
  11. Trusts and Estates (includes Decedents’ Estates and Trusts & Future Interests)
  12. Uniform Commercial Code (includes Negotiable Instruments and Secured Transactions)
