General Application Information

Timely filed applications for the JULY 2017 bar exam are due APRIL 15, 2017. Late applications may be filed until May 30, but filing fees increase substantially. More details are available here.

The 2017 exam will be administered JULY 25-26, 2017.

Content and Scoring of the Exam

The Pennsylvania bar exam consists of six essays, one performance test question (developed by the Board of Law Examiners -- not a question from the Multistate Practice Exam), and the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE).

Essay questions may cover the following areas:

business organizations  —  civil procedure (state and federal)  —  criminal law  —  conflict of laws  —  contracts  —  employment discrimination (Title VII, ADA, and ADEA)  —  evidence (state and federal)  —  family law  —  federal constitutional law  —  federal income tax  —  professional responsibility  —  real property  —  torts  —  UCC Article II (sales)  —  wills, trusts, and estates. The essay and performance test scores together are weighted 55%, and the MBE score is weighted 45%. More details may be found here.
