Yolanda Merrill

Humanities and Reference Librarian, Assoc. Prof.

I am Washington and Lee's Humanities librarian and the liaison to all the departments and programs in the humanities. I help students and faculty with their research, and teach classes in research methods and skills.

The class sessions offer a Research Guide filled with important resources ranging from finding materials, evaluating sources, citing sources, plagiarism, etc.  You may also just request a Research Guide without inviting me for a visit.

As the liaison, I maintain contact with the faculty and assist them in their research and projects in the digital humanities. Other responsibilities include collection development (buying books, journals, videos, CDs, databases) in the humanities disciplines.

Request a Course Guide / Class Presentation / Library Tour

FOR FACULTY ONLY: Please fill out this request form.

Students often encounter obstacles during their research. To help the student understand how to navigate our homepage and discover our resources, I can

  • visit your class and present a research guide on the topic of the course.
  • create an online research guide without coming to your class.

Here is an example of a course guide: WRIT 100: The Good Wife

Note: I also give library tours to familiarize students with the library and its services.

Exhibit Ideas?

As the coordinator of exhibits in Leyburn Library, I am always looking for new ideas and/or participation. Please contact me with topics you'd like to see highlighted in our exhibits. They can be related to academic life, student life, athletics, celebrations, etc.
