Library Reserve Services

Reserve items are located at the Information Desk in the Leyburn Library or the Circulation Desk in the Telford Science Library. Materials on Reserve are supplemental readings for classes currently being taught at Washington and Lee University.

Search for reserve material by department course number or course title.
Search for reserve material by instructor.

General Policies: Only one item may be checked out at a time. Multiple items may be checked out with approval of professor.  Reserve items are checked out for 2, 4 or 24 hour periods per the instruction of the professor.

Open Reserves: At the request of faculty, the library may place items on Open Reserve. Only Telford Science have items on Open Reserve. Open Reserve items are in a public area and may be checked-out without the assistance of library staff.  When searching our Reserve Collection, items in this collection will have information stating that they are in "Leyburn-Open Reserve" or "Science-Open Reserve".

Reserve Fines & Renewals: Course, Permanent, and Open Reserves items returned late are fined $1 per hour (or part thereof). Students are advised of the time items are due upon checkout. Reserve materials may be rechecked out by the same patron if no one else is waiting for the item.

Permanent Reserve: Due to a high level of demand, certain materials including dictionaries, writer's references, investment reports, etc. are placed on Permanent Reserve.  When searching the catalog, items in this collection will have a location of "Perm. Reserve". You may ask for these items at the Information Desk at Leyburn Library.
